The Early Bird ALWAYS Gets Le Worm.

I am what you would call a "morning person,"
no we are not unicorns, we really do exist! Yes some mornings are harder than others but day to day I really do enjoy getting up. Maybe it was drilled into my mind as a young child by my Ron Swanson esque father that sleeping in = lazy which really means, I wont account for anything and I'll spend the rest of my life selling cookies at a gas station.

Hyperbole aside, my whole family consists of morning people, and in our life sized doll house with our paper thin walls, when more than one person is up EVERYONE is up.

While I live at a dorm during the weekdays, for holidays and weekends I am at my home and at my home I feel at peace.

When I'm at home I may sleep like this

But every time I wake up in my favorite house of all time, I feel like this

Being at my home just feels right, my bed is comfy, my family is lovely, and I'm just at peace.
My house is calm and lovely and the best part is I get a full kitchen to work with, so today I made those most lovely brunch that I thought I'd share with you.

Scrumptious to say the least.

For my feast I made a fried egg ontop of a curry quinoa cake on a bed of spinach
with two pieces of toast and some chicken sausage
yummm

then I also had blueberry greek yogurt with blueberries, blackberries, and a sprig of mint from our mint plant in our backyard

I also had a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee,
I shared this breakfast with my mother and we listened to lovely music and talked about our plans for the day, for tomorrow and for the rest of our lives.

I simply adore the mornings,

are you a morning person?

To Scrunchie or Not to Scrunchie?

I am 19 years old, ie I was born in 93', ie I am a child of the 90's.
And believe me, I rolled with the best of them, I drank orange soda with Kel, I could whistle the Doug theme song better than any other kindergartner, I had a skip-it, I set up my dolls in a facsimile of a "Babysitters club,"  I discovered by identical twin at the mall a la Sister Sister and I even wore a scrunchie.

If you are from the planet Mars, or were born after 99' I'll explain, a scrunchie (below picture) is fabric colored, elastic hair tie, mostly used for fastening long hair that was patented in 1994.

Mind you this was between 95' and 99', I had thin hair, my mother bought my clothes and I only wore pigtails. So when it came to the matter of scrunchies, I had no opinion. Everychild at the time wore them, so I followed suit, they were almost a uniform.

They were just a part of fashion as they were a part of the playground.
Take for example in the film Heathers, scrunchies overflowed in abundance, a scrunchie is even featured in the first few seconds of this film

Years pass and far and few scrunchies roamed the earth. They rolled around the fashion world like tumbleweeds in an abandoned western town, just drifting aimlessly with the wind with no person, looking for the love and notoriety they once received.

They were passé, they are "SO 90'S!" Even Carrie Bradshaw once said "no self respecting New York City woman would be caught dead running around Manhattan in a scrunchie," to which I agreed whole heartly.

I saw scrunchies like I saw cone bras, 100% polyester moon suits and silly bands: trends, and I assumed they were ephemeral.
Till Dov Churney came along.
(if you don't know who Dov Churney is click here)

American Apparel has developed what I like to call "ironic dress," which entails, wearing bandshirts of bands you don't listen too, wearing the skinniest jeans possible to post a social commentary on the trend, or simple enough bringing the fanny pack back. Its dressing in an ironic matter for humor, or to secretly wear something you like but with the pretense that it is "ironic" to avoid judgement of others

Now these self proclaimed hipsters with their ironic fashion love to bring back past trends like neow windbreakers, suspenders, thin golden chains and as you can guess...

and frankly I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this.

When I first heard about this I clenched my fists in anger, the trend JUST DIED, and now it was back again, full force.

I lept to my computer and hopped on to American Apparels website which led me to this
and entire section dedicated to these bad boys.

I was struck dumbfounded. Was the only reason this trend became a trend again was because it was such an awful trend that it became ironic to wear therefore becoming a new trend?

I started noticing them everywhere
I felt like it was 96' all over again

I don't where my problem with scrunchies comes from, is it that I associate it with disheveled frizzy hair  from the 90's, the fact that they look like tiny buttholes, or maybe the fact that the trend should be dead?

Either way I'm still completely torn on the matter.

I want to like them, my sister Hayley wears one but I don't know if I'll be able to get over my resentment for those spheres of nostalgia.
Her theory is that they are such a cute accessory, if I wore one it would be cutsey girly overload.
What are your opinions on such accessory,

Tiny Details: Think Pink

Tiny detail of the day is a new segment I'm going to start doing that show cases a tiny detail of my life.

The tiny detail I want to feature today is my desk set up,
I'm very obsessed with knick-knacks, tea sets, jewelry and I've been into the aesthetic display of those items I love so much.

Pastel colors have always been my favorite since I was a youngin, and considering I have so many pastel doo-dads I thought why not make it a cohesive theme.

So this is one corner of my desk

I got this lovely cup, saucer and the candle behind it from this local boutique called Muu'Muu Heaven, which is this adorable boutique that sells custom made pillows, muu'muus, candles, homestuff etc
It just about changed my life.

I also got this bangle from there too $5!!

I got this super kewl geode ring from this boutique called "Flower Child" and I simply love it

Then I got this awesome clear glass skeleton vase that I filled with sweetheart candies
I can't remember the name of this place, but the second I get home I'll update you guys, I kept their business card!
I also got this magnet and these mind green heart shaped studs from there too, and its driving me nuts!

My friend Sofi got me these pencils, they are so incredibly Caelan, its not even funny.

of course I have to feature my Hole album, a gift from the LOVELY Kate Ryan

and that is the tiny detail of the day
I hope you all enjoyed it
and I hope you notice a tiny detail of your own.

Have a lovely day and PLZ
Keep it Sass-ayy

Sherbert Hair, Really Don't Care.

As you know from this post
I've experimented a lot with my hair

and as per my nature, I began to get restless
so thanks to my WONDERFULLY AMAZING Hair dresser Lanée Roth at the Marsha Nadalin Salon in Honolulu I've updated my look once more.

I mentioned Lanée briefly in my hair post but I thought I'd go a little more into detail before I reveal my new locks,

I met Lanée when I was 16 and about to go to my junior prom, I'd been going to that salon for awhile but I needed someone to do an up-do and she was the specialist! I met her and she did this AMAZING updo with braids and sparkles and it was really, very lovely.

and from then on we've been a match made in hair heaven

onto my latest look a long with an outfit of today

My sister was recently asked to help revamp our Alma Maters' uniforms and this got me thinking
I've always been obsessed with uniform culture

While I hated my uniform, I find many of my outfits completely uniformed inspired
I love tartan skirts, leather satchels, black stockins, but what I love more is the breaking of dresscode

if it were up to me Daniel Johnston shirts would be part of the uniform
and Jeffery Campbells would be mandatory
Totoro accessories are essential to the learning process and need to be adorned at all time

Uniforms add a certain je ne sais quoi to any film, a few of my favorite are:

The lovely ladies of Miss Godards Preparatory school in the film All I Wanna Do (look forward to a blogpost about this film)
A secret princess, her adorable sidekick and Mandy Moore...that bitch at the lovely Albert Einstein Highschool in San Francisco
The entire robot dancing student body at this Roman Catholic High School, ESPECIALLY Mary Katherine Gallagher

And now post on uniforms would be  complete without feature Mr. Max Fisher and his beloved Rushmore Academy

We need more people like him in the world who are so passionate about high school and extracurricular activities that nothing else matters...not even all the copious hand-jobs that are mentioned throughout this film.

Its ironic you see, when I was required to wear a uniform I absolutely hated it, but now that I go to a public Uni, I couldn't be more infatuated with uniform inspired fashion.

Did you have to wear a uniform in highschool?
Let me know in the comments
have a WONDERFUL day ladies and gents
and PLEASE
Keep it Sassy,

Sister Style.

For any of you that have sisters, you understand what a tight intrinsic bond sisterhood is.
My three, beautiful and wonderful sisters have known me since the day I was born and have been my best friend ever since.

I always think that if it werent for my extremely chic mother and my three fashion forward sisters, I'd be wearing crocs and gaucho pants.

So I thought I'd pay homage to my amazing sisters in three separate posts

Here are the Hughes girls

a foresome or a quadfecta each magically different and positively wonderful in their own manner
Devon, a strong soul with a nostalgic heart
Kelsey, soft spoken with her head in the clouds
Hayley, a firecracker with the warmest smile
and me, Caelan, the baby

While time and growing older has lead us on our own different paths, when we all get together it is always the same, an overwhelming sensation of feeling of completion just washes over me.
When each sister enters our house we each always scream their name
We all have special nicknames and on going jokes since forever
They are my sisters
and will always be my best friends.

While I'm introducing this series I thought I'd discuss some famous sisters in the stratosphere
Little Women by Louise May Alcott is one of my favorite stories of all time.
The book is fantastic and the movie is wonderful as well. I think I'll always feel a close tie to this movie just because of the character parallels between us and them (I'm so Amy). We watched it countless times on Maui due to our lack of cable and its sacrilege to watch it with anyone else. I kid you not, when I hear the title score, I begin to tear up, not much makes me that emotional, but such a beautifully told, heart warming story about four sisters is inevitably going to pull on my heart strings. Stories about love and romance don't cut it for me, I find love like that, when portrayed in films to be cheesy and superficial, but sister love is one of the purest forms of love and will always hit a soft spot in my heart.
(and Christian Bale is a total babe in this film)
The Virgin Suicides is a tragically beautiful story about the death of 5 sisters. This film is directed by Sophia Coppola and is the visual representation of teen girl angst and depression. I will always love this film due to the cinematography but also due to the plot, it tells such a real story, with such raw feeling and is able to express emotions of a 13-year-old girl flawlessly. Each sister symbolizes a different spirit and there relationship together just breaks my heart.
Sex and The City is the most perfect example of nonbiological sisterhood. While these four women have completely separate genetic identities, they are sisters in every other way. These listen to each other rant and rave over their latest boyfriend or sexual endeavor over brunch all providing advice and support. They have there own taste in men and their own sense of fashion, each unique and wonderful in their own ways. The common theme of sisterhood prevails throughout every episode and while the credit roll, I'm always so happy and satisfied.
The Olsen twins.
My sisters and I grew up with these sisters. I swear the majority of their money must've come from the Hughes household. We bought all their directly-released VHS's, we were invited to their parties and helped them solve mysteries and later traveled the world with them. They were just as much a part of our family and we each were. Its silly because in the grand scheme of things, they have no clue who I am, but I really do believe I know them, they are my friends and they have been since they lived in San Francisco and both went by the name "Michelle Tanner."
Lastly the entire Kardashian clan.
Watching their show reminds of the insanity that is sisterhood.
They are loud, and silly and beautiful, and what I love is no matter how successful any of them get they will continue to make fun of each other and treat each other no different. Thats what sisterhood is, someone who loves you and who is happy for your success but will never be too good to call you "barf incrusted jumbo jerk" or simple enough as "dumb bitch" but the best part of sisterhood is you both know you never really mean it.

so look forward to my new series
and I hope to be hearing from you about your sisters soon

keep calm
cary on
and dont forget to keep it sassy,

Stares Into Space Like A Dead Chinadoll

During winter break my AMAZINGLY talented friend Kate Ryan and I met up and went on a roadtrip, we both documented the whole thing but sadly all my film didnt got ruined by too much sunlight

Luckily not only did Kate's photos survive but they are gorgeous, she is seriously the most talented young photographer (look forward to an interview with that shutterbug)

When I was 13 I watched copious amounts of ANTM, enough to give me the delusional idea that I could be a "teen model," I took classes and got head shots and even modeled in a muu'uu muu'uu fashion show....I know I'm THAT cool

So to say I'm a professional model is an understatement
here are some of the photos, let me know what you think of my modeling?

A wonderful day with a wonderful friend of mine
She needs to come back this summer to do it again!!

Have a lovely evening everyone
and please keep it sassy,
