Today, Saturday, July 23, 2011, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment at age 27.
This is mind boggling to me.
She was getting better, looking healthy and I was eagerly anticipating her comeback,
people with voices like that can't just die before their comeback, its not fair, its not right!
Amy Winehouse was a visionary.
She began my love of dark cat like eyeliner.
She was something new and refreshing in our current music industry full of polished, plastic, perfect puppets! Her voice has soul, passion and every time she sang, you could hear her history of pain and passion in her voice!
Not only was Amy Winehouse a true talent of our time, but she is also a style icon and will be for generations to come.
For my outfit today I had to channel her
She brought back the bee-hive before Nicki Minaj or Snooki
and her winged-tip eyeliner was always superb
Her tattoos and headscarves were always so awesome! Luckily my sisters and mother have an extensive scarf collection :)
and my favorite facet of her style was the ballet shoes she'd wear
they were so well loved.
My interpretation.
Romper from Betsey Johnson
Real ballet shoes
She was a true marvel in the music industry today and she will greatly be missed.
so I was beyond impressed with the feedback on my last post but alas, I still havent gotten around to responding, but I do read everything, I've just been ridiculously busy (which isnt anything new)
ANYWHO I've got inspiration up the ying yang and its the most delightful feeling ever.
Today's outfit is inspired by the 70's
I'm completely free today so I thought why not sew something, but my sister Devon stole the sewing machine, so I thought, why not look through the clothing I have to fix
and then I remembered that I bought this AMAZING dress on Haight Street that didnt fit right
and by "didnt fit right" I mean I was too fat for it when I tried it on but bought it anyway hoping I could fix it,
so I found it, and tried it on and awesomely enough IT FIT! I felt like OJ Simpson, except, the dress did fit...yeah
and while I'm no decade or fashion expert this is what I came up with.
The dress as I mentioned was from a little store on Haight Street, San Francisco
and my friend Bianca sent me this detachable collar
I personally think this dress looks amazing with and without it
The print is so cute, and psychedelic and fun and yes. I love it quite a lot
oh and of course I had to wear these
They are super disco and I just love them. I found them at GoodWill and knew I needed to have them
They are the gr00viest shoes I own and if they werent so hard to walk in, I'd wear them all the time.
Onto my lastest 70's esque obsessions
1) Tiki's- weirdly enough EVERYONE in my family is super obsessed with Tikis, they are all over my house
and they of course remind me of the Hawaii episode of The Brady Bunch
yall know what I'm talking about!
2) Multi-vitamin gummies...cause I'm cool...you can buy them at Costco...I eat them like candy
3) The book SuperGirls
which is "the autobiography of an outrageous business...how with brains, energy and imagination two young women set up their own business and had fun doing it"
The reviews on the back of the book are the best, I kid you not this is what they say:
"This book is dangerous dynamite. SuperGirls is subversive. These girls are, let's face it, almost the equal of men. Furthermore, for girls, they write suprisingly well."
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT, it honestly just makes me laugh
4) Seurat- I just love pointillism so much
5) My baby Zeus-whom I need to take out more
6) Orange Juice, because I have a painfully sore throat and orange juice is the only thing that seems to be curing it. Is it just me or does everyone go through a weird phase where they are obsessed with Orange Juice...am I right or what??
7) Wild life!
Any my makeup for this look
Forgive the weird lighting, I had to use selftimer and my kitchen light
so according to my mother, who was alive in the 70's haha, makeup was SUPER minimal, so I wore these three
1) Covergirl Outlast Lipstain in Raspberry
2) Benefit BAD gal mascara in Plum
3) Benefit Boi-ing in shade 02 (cause I'm white as snow)
These three made for a very simple and nature look
but the lipstain wasnt the only color on my lips
I used cherries and black berries to give my lips a darker shade
not only is the look pretty and cheap but my lips also taste delicious!!
I recommend it to anyone!
This tea set is apparently from the 40's but I thought it tied my inspiration, outfit and color scheme together, perfectly!
I hope this post gives you some gr00vy inspiration, and if you make an outfit inspired by mine or just by the 70s let me know!
and I leave you with some Brady Bunch stills
Goddamnit these girls are whiny!
Keep it sassy yall,
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
OH AND I FORGOT TO MENTION
this is the first time in Sasssquatch history for me to wear my hair in a middle part.
I have this funky cowlick and this irrational fear that I look like Steve Perry with my hair middle parted
but I did it!
and while I don't think I'll rock this rock daily, I dont think it looks that bad!
now I mention the idea of "inspiration club" to yall a few posts ago
and if yall want to add me on FB we could make a group
but until then, I was thinking this post could be an open forum for different ideas and suggestions that we all feel free to steal.
I thought I'd just list a ton of different blog post suggestions and you could do the same in the comments and when one is feeling uninspired they could go back to this page and find an idea they might like and post it!
if you think a google doc would be a better idea we can do that too, but this is a good start I think.

okay and lastly
1) I've met someone very special, and while this person has now become a new source of inspiration (they dont know that yet haha) but I was also trying to spend as much time not spent working, with my baby, because there is this weird theme amongst my closest friends to leave me this summer
SO
I've been brainstorming what I'm going to do with this blog, (which I will reveal soon)
I work at the Honolulu Academy of Arts: at Linekona
and my job there is to assistant teach "Art Camp" which is 1 class from 7:45 to 2:45 that consists of 20 1st through 3rd graders...
its no cake walk
But we've made some cool art in the class so far
such as this totem pole
how cool is that!?!!
anywho as INSANE as these children are (and believe me, they really are)
they've sort of inspired me as well
I've rediscovered my love of plastic jewelry, cotton, and snap
bracelets
despite the fact that I'm 18, my style has become positively jejune!!
here are a few outfits I've worn throughout the week
oh and its been Alice in Wonderland themed this week at camp
Wednesday
Pink top: Betsy Johnson
90's floral jumper: deerheartvintage
Dinosaur backpack: Gymboree
Gummybear Earring: Gift from my pal Elise (I lost the other one)
Gold Teddybear earrings: Imyourpresent
Slap bracelet watch: found in my house...hahaha
Beaded bracelet: My first rave when I was 16...oh lawdy lawd lawd
mushroom clip: Homemadeworld(aka best Etsy store EVER)
socks: Costco
Shoes: Converse paint, all by accident
I quite enjoyed this outfit because it was all so soft, also the jumper allowed me some leg mobility while running after small children, but was also as pretty as any other dress! The bright colors were fun and instantly put me in a groovy mood, and come on, I had a mushroom clip on, if that doesn't inspire you, I don't know what would!
Thursday
Today at camp we painted the roses red!
and we had a very merry unbirthday
Sailor Striped top: Pins & Needles from Urban Outfitters
Shorts: Forever21
Barrel of Monkeys earrings from my sister,
and believe me, these got a barrel of compliments
(forgive the awkward angle)
note to self, don't put angora socks in the wash or they will be like trying to put sausage casing on an elephant foot...jus sayin
This outfit was fun too, the shorts reminded me of my FAVORITE scene in Alice in Wonderland
I've always loved flowers, as a kid whenever we played pretend my fake name was always a flower name: Daisy, Rosey, Sunflower-y, etc which led to the rule created by sister "NO FLOWER NAMES," my heart was crushed!
I still love flowers quite a lot.
Its sad, since I don't live on a farm anymore I dont get grow my own plants, and there is nothing more rewarding than planting a flower and watching it grow, I hear its similar to raising a child....sorta
that also leads me to another favorite childhood reference I should mention
